What even is cannabis?

Meet the plant behind a million stories.

can·na·bis (noun)
A wonderfully aromatic plant with serrated leaves, tiny resin glands, and a long history of human companionship.

The one-minute version

Cannabis is a single species (Cannabis sativa L.) with many varieties. What makes it interesting isn’t just THC—it’s the mix of cannabinoids + terpenes (the scented oils) that shape how it smells, tastes, and feels. Different mixes = different experiences.

Plant 101

  • Flowers: Where the good stuff lives—covered in crystal-like trichomes (resin glands).

  • Trichomes: Nature’s tiny factories that make cannabinoids and terpenes.

  • Cannabinoids: Compounds like THC, CBD, and minors (CBG, CBC, etc.).

  • Terpenes: The aroma/flavor molecules—think pine (pinene), citrus (limonene), pepper (caryophyllene), lavender (linalool).

Why it smells and feels different

Every strain (more accurately, chemovar) carries a fingerprint—its own blend of cannabinoids and terpenes. That fingerprint is why one strain smells like lemon zest and feels uplifting while another leans grape-berry and cozy.

Shortcut: your nose is a great guide. If it smells good to you, it often feels good to you.

Sativa, indica, hybrid—does it matter?

These labels started as botany and growth traits, not feelings. Today they’re mostly shorthand on shelves. What matters more is the chemistry (that fingerprint above). Two “sativas” can feel totally different if their terpene blends don’t match.

Ways people enjoy cannabis

  • Flower: Classic. Fast onset, rich aroma.

  • Vapes: Portable and discreet; flavor depends on oil quality and temperature.

  • Concentrates: Potent and terp-forward (rosin, live resin, sauce, etc.).

  • Edibles: Slower onset, longer ride.

  • Tinctures & capsules: Measured, versatile.

  • Topicals: Targeted, non-intoxicating on skin.

Different formats = different onset and duration. Start small, see how you feel, adjust.

How it can feel (varies by person)

  • Bright & breezy: citrus/pine led profiles often pair with an uplifted headspace.

  • Calm & cozy: berry/lavender notes frequently read relaxing.

  • Body-forward: earth/spice profiles can feel physically soothing.

Everyone’s endocannabinoid system is unique. Your experience may differ.

Simple use tips

  • Environment matters: set + setting shape the ride.

  • Temperature matters: gentle heat preserves flavor.

  • Storage matters: keep upright, cool, and out of direct sun.

Small glossary

  • Trichome: Resin gland on the flower where cannabinoids/terpenes are made.

  • Terpenes: Aromatic compounds that influence flavor and vibe.

  • Chemovar: A plant grouped by chemical profile, not just its name.

  • Onset: How fast effects begin after you use a product.

The spirit of the plant

Cannabis is part science, part ritual, part community. Explore at your pace, trust your senses, and choose profiles that make you feel most like yourself.
